Old Window Workshop

In late February I attended the Historic Homes Workshop 2018 in Brooksville, Florida to meet others who are as passionate as I am about wood window restoration and old home preservation. The weekend was hosted by Steve Quillian of Wood Window Makeover and Ty McBride of Wood Window Rescue. These gentlemen are experienced preservationists who put together a fabulous weekend for folks who want to learn to maintain their own homes and for restorers who are developing their own businesses.

After workshops that covered topics including glazing, sash cord repair, glass replacement, and rotten wood repair, we spent the following day tackling the windows of the Historic May-Stringer House in downtown Brooksville. It was inspiring to see people of many skill levels come together to share their expertise, to learn, and to give back to the local community by applying these skills to restorative improvements on this historic house from the 1850s.

Send me an email or comment below if you are interested in seeing an event like this in the Twin Cities. There is so much we can learn from one another and so much we can do ourselves to care for our beautiful, old houses.
